“I received this book from the author as a part of a review program.”
Do you believe everything is destined? Do you think we are mere puppets in this world?
Revoloving around the answers of these questions, ‘That Thing About You‘ delivers a unique story of a common man who falls into a paranormal trap that turns out to be fortunate for him. Subodh, the protagonist, after being rejected by his love interest, meets an unusual, mysterious woman. This woman happens to know everything about him and has answers to all his questions. Walking on this new mysterious path, his life turned upside down.
The title and the cover of the book is like a mirror to the story. Its deep, intriguing and mysterious. Though the novel doesn’t have the element of romance, as the cover and the title suggest it, instead it lies in the category of fiction which makes you learn something without being didactic.
Coming on the plot, as the summary states, it is simple, exciting, mysterious and unpredictable. The choice of character is unique; the world from an immature adult’s perspective is crafted nicely. Character development is good but it still needs some work.
Setting is normal and every scene is explained properly. Narration is simple and detailed and from Subodh’s POV mostly. Conversations between the mysterious woman and Subodh are deep and about the basic things of life. One thing that is very basic and the way it has been quoted is indescribable –
“It’s a privilege to feel sad because of love. For it means, love has served its purpose.”
Pace of the book is surely gripping, you can read it in one sitting. Language is understandable and easy. The unknown connection between the two characters is penned down amazingly and is soul-touching.
In a nutshell, the book is gripping and is a hope to the lost and those who are distracted from their path. I loved the way the author has written the book. I recommend this to everyone who is looking for a unique story and want to look at life with a different angle.
