Our Souls were one, if you must know
And never shall they be apart;
With splendid dawn, your face aglow
I reach for you and find my heart.
The Notebook is a poignant love story about two people who try to recapture the love they once shared, despite the passage of time. Nicholas Sparks, one of the great authors, has beautifully delivered the heartwarming love story between Noah and Allison. The never-ending, compassionate love between two people is unbelievable, but the way it has been delivered makes you want to love like it.
Noah and Allison, lead characters of the story are portrayed very well. According to Nicholas Sparks, the book was originally inspired by the story of his wife’s grandparents. The romantic tone of ‘The Notebook’ became both its best asset and biggest downfall, as it is one of the sappiest and cheesiest novels.
Language and narration of the book are proper. There are small excerpts of the poem in the book, which are beautifully written and incredibly soul-stirring. The author weaves the romance with the simplest of words and they turned out cheesy and good at the same time. The ending could have been better. The author could also have explained more about their life after that one big day. There are many possibilities in which the novel can improve but still at the end, this book fits to be a bestseller with a soul – touching love story. It shows what a never – ending love can be like! Even after spending a convenient amount of time with Allison, Noah still wants to know her a little more every day and wants to fall in love with her all over again. It’s just unimaginable.
I understand the criticism of the book, as the love seems unrealistic and nobody talks like Noah, but the bond between Noah and Allison felt real to me. I also loved reading about how an old man groping over his upcoming death, reminiscing his life events; they all felt realistic. I am not a fan of romantic novels, but I think I can add this one to my collection.
Everyone who is looking for a love story, this is the one! A one night read which can literally make you cry!
Incredible, Cheesy, Soul touching Romance!
